INFO: Setting up Earthlink Cable with a router


 The information in this article applies to the following products:
   
  • 4-Port Cable/DSL Gateway Router (F5D5230-4)
  • Cable/DSL Gateway Router (F5D5231-4)
  • Wireless Cable/DSL Gateway Router (F5D6230-3)
  • Wireless Cable/DSL Gateway Router (F5D6231-4)
  • 54g Wireless DSL/Cable Gateway Router (F5D7230-4)
  • High-Speed Mode Wireless G Router (F5D7231-4)
  • High Speed Mode Wireless G Router with Built-In USB Print Server (F5D7231-4P)
  • Wireless Pre-N Router (F5D8230-4)
  •      

     Symptom
       

    When you attempt to open a web page you may recieve the following message:

    • The page cannot be displayed
    • The page you are looking for is currently unavailable
    • The website may be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings

     Resolution
       

    First make sure that you have a valid connection to the router and that you have a valid IP address.

    (note: for a wired connection you should have a link light on the numbered port of the router to which your computer is connected.  You should have an IP address in the range 192.168.2.x.  To check your IP address, click on Start, Run and type in command. Click OK.  Now type in ipconfig and hit enter.  Your IP address will be listed.)

    For the F5D5230-4, F5D6230-3

    1. Open a Web Browser
    2. In the address bar type http://192.168.2.1 
    3. Click on Intial Setup 
    4. Select Dynamic and click Select
    5. Type in your Hostname *
    6. Click Clone MAC Address and click Enter
    7. Click on LAN Settings in the left hand column
    8. Type in your Domain Name *
    9. Click on Status in the left hand column
    10. Click on Intial Setup 
    11. Select PPPOE and click Select
    12. Type in your username that was assigned to you by your ISP 
    13. Type in your password that was assigned to you by your ISP twice
    14. Type in your Service Name *
    15. Click on Enter
    16. Click on Status in the left hand column
    17. It should now show Cable / DSL Connected under the Internet column

    For the F5D5231-4, F5D6231-4, F5D7230-4, F5D7231-4, F5D7231-4P, F5D8230-4, F6D3230-4

    1. Open a Web Browser
    2. In the address bar type http://192.168.2.1 
    3. Click on Connection Type in the left hand column under Internet WAN heading
    4. Enter your password if any and click Submit
    5. Click on Dynamic and then click on Next
    6. Type in your Hostname *
    7. Click on Apply Changes 
    8. Click on MAC Address in the left hand column under Internet WAN heading
    9. Click on Clone and then click on Apply Changes
    10. Click on LAN Settings in the left hand column under the LAN heading
    11. Type in your Local Domain Name *
    12. Click Apply Changes
    13. Click on Connection Type in the left hand column under Internet WAN heading
    14. Click on PPPOE and then click on Next
    15. Type in your username that was assigned to you by your ISP 
    16. Type in your password that was assigned to you by your ISP twice
    17. Type in your Service Name *
    18. Click on Apply Changes 
    19. Click on the Home link at the top of the screen
    20. It should now show Connected as the Internet Status at the top right hand corner of the web page

      * For Hostname, enter the user name you use to log in. For Domain Name or Local Domain Name, enter "home" without quotes.  For Service Name, enter $$-Toshiba if you have a toshiba modem or RR-Manager if you have any other type of modem.
